The ring in brief
The Noble Collection's One Ring Sterling Silver costs $159. It is a sterling silver ring plated in pure gold, with the inscription etched around the inside and outside of the band, sold with a 24 inch chain, a wooden collector's box and a certificate of authenticity. Noble describes its range as officially licensed collectibles.
It is not made by Jens Hansen and does not claim to copy the film prop. Think of it as Noble's own licensed version of the ring, packaged as a gift.
What we know
From The Noble Collection's product page:
- Material. Cast in sterling silver and richly plated in pure gold.
- Inscription. Laser engraved in a full circle on the inside and outside.
- Size. Standard size ten only.
- In the box. Pendant box, certificate of authenticity, ring and chain. The chain is 24 inches.
- Licence. Noble's About Us page says the company specializes in officially licensed collectibles. The product page itself does not name a licensor.
What we haven't verified
The specification table lists a length of 12 inches and a weight of 0.05 lb, which seem to describe the ring with its chain rather than the ring alone. There is no width, thickness or weight for the ring itself, so we cannot compare its proportions with the Jens Hansen ring. We have not seen how thick the gold plating is or how quickly it wears. We also cannot confirm who manufactures the ring for Noble. Noble ships to the United States and Canada only, according to its FAQ, which limits who can buy it directly.
Who it suits
The single size is the deciding factor. If you want to wear the ring on its chain, the way Frodo carries it, or keep it on a shelf, size ten does not matter and the box and certificate make it a tidy gift. If you want a ring for your finger, it only works if you happen to be a size ten, and plating over silver is not ideal for daily wear.
Noble also sells a solid sterling silver One Ring for $79, engraved on the outside only, and a stainless steel band for $59. Both come in more sizes but look less like the film ring.
How it compares
For a gold coloured ring in your own size, the Jens Hansen tungsten ring at $129 is closer to the film design.
