Editorial policy

This page explains how MovieRings researches and writes about rings from film and TV, and what you can and cannot expect from our reviews.

How we research

We start from what the makers and retailers publish about each ring: product pages, material and size details, and statements about licensing. Where the history of a film prop is involved, we look for what the people who made it have said publicly. We write everything in our own words and name our sources on the page.

Product photos

We do not have the rings in hand yet. The product photos on this site come from the makers and retailers, are used with their permission, and every one of them carries a credit such as "Photo: Jens Hansen". When we photograph a ring ourselves, the credit reads "Photo: MovieRings". We do not use film stills, posters, studio logos or AI generated images.

What our reviews are based on

Because we have not handled these rings yet, our reviews do not give star ratings. Each review separates what we know from the maker's and retailer's information from what we have not been able to verify. A rating appears only on reviews of rings we have bought or borrowed, photographed and measured ourselves.

How we measure

When a ring is in our hands, we weigh it on a digital scale and measure the band width and thickness with calipers. We publish the numbers together with the date we measured them. Until then, product details say "Not measured by us" and come from the retailer.

Prices

Prices are read from each retailer's own website and shown in US dollars, with the date we last checked them. Prices change, and the retailer's current price is the one that counts. If a price is not publicly listed, we say "See retailer for price" instead of guessing.

Licensing

We call a replica licensed only when its maker or retailer states that it is. We also describe unlicensed and copied rings so that you can tell them apart, but we do not link to them.

Money and independence

There are currently no affiliate links and no ads on this site, and we do not take commissions from retailers. Links to makers and shops are ordinary links, and no retailer reviews or approves our pages before they go live. If any of this changes, we will say so on this page.

Corrections

If you spot a mistake, please tell us through the contact page and include the address of the page. We correct factual errors as soon as we can confirm them. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the page, with the date.

Update dates

Every page shows the date it was last updated. We change that date when the content changes in a way that matters to readers, such as a new price, a new product or a correction, not for small wording fixes.
